Living Edge – The Prospect of Architectural and Urban Dimensions of Domestic Borders
We are collaborating on a PhD research project that explores the edges between inside and outside, public and private in the contemporary city. The project questions the effects the growth of the social and environmental dimensions has on the interplay between the domestic unit and the urban city. By examining the edge zone in an urban residential building, the PhD thesis aims to replace the modernistic approach of openness with a new attitude of carefully structured and defined relationships. The thesis explores the architectural opportunities and challenges of the interplay between the social and the environmental dimensions in relation to the architectural elements, the dwelling, the building and the urban site.
